mora_sm.jpgLAS VEGAS - Latin Warriors genuinely describe the intensity and determination in each and every one of the "Contenders" who gave the crowd a real boxing treat, Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Aladdin Theater for the Performing Arts. Sergio Mora, (17-0-0) current champion of the Contender series scored a technical knockout against Archak TerMeliksetian, (15-3-0) with 16 seconds left in the 7th round and remains undefeated.

The Light Middleweight fight, which was scheduled for ten rounds, was stopped by Referee Robert Byrd when Mora repeatedly hit TerMeliksetian. Byrd warned TerMeliksetian to "show me something" before calling an end to the bout after he failed to respond to the battering of punches. However, TerMeliksetian believed the stoppage was premature and was clearly upset. Mora suffered a flash knock down in the second round but remained in control of the fight.

Settling the score was the goal of Jesse Feliciano, (14-5-2), of Las Vegas by way of Puerto Rico, and Alfonso Gomez, Jr., (14-3-1) of Guadalajara, Mexico, who highlighted the evening with a ferocious eight round Jr Light Middleweight match which ended in a majority draw. These warriors had split the two previous fights and this was to be the rubber match, however, there now may be a fourth match in the making.

In other matches, Tyson Schweiger of Las Vegas suffered a third round knockout by Ramiro Rivera, of Phoenix, AZ in a four round Jr. Light Middleweight bout. Jonathan Reid of Nashville, TN won a unanimous decision over Ryan Davis of Chicago, IL in a 6 round Jr. Light Middleweight fight and Miguel Espino defeated Gabriel Hoguin by unanimous decision in a 6 round Light Middleweight bout.

Season two of the Contender Series premieres on ESPN July 18 and promises to be an exciting action-packed continuation of the Tournament of Contenders which highlights young talented boxers who have championship potential.
