contenderfinale_3lg.jpgThe Final is set for “The Contender” with both finalists, Steve Forbes and Grady Brewer weighing in at 149 pounds for the championship bout which will be held Tuesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be televised live on ESPN beginning at 10:00 P.M. ET. The winner will receive a grand prize of $500,000.

The welterweight bout is scheduled for ten rounds and promises to be a battle from the start with both fighters predicting victory in this life changing event, as was evidenced by Grady Brewer, as he became very emotional during the press conference and promised that he would give the performance of his life.

contenderfinale_lg.jpgcontenderfinale_2lg.jpgSergio Mora, last season’s champion explained what goes into the tournament and how the championship is a product of blood, sweat, determination and tears. Sugar Ray Leonard, who is the host of the series, expressed how proud he is of each and every participant and praised their fierce competitive nature.

A match-up between Norberto Bravo and Cornelius “K-9” Bundrage which is the “Bronze Bout” will be televised live immediately before the championship bout.
contenderfinale_4lg.jpgThe other undercard bouts include Nick Acevedo vs Nurhan Suleymanoglu in a super welterweight fight, Vinroy Barrett vs Walter Wright, also a super welterweight bout, and Freddy Curiel vs Aaron Torres in a welterweight bout.

“The Contender” is a reality based boxing tournament which takes you into the world of a professional boxer and gives you a taste of what these fine athletes endure to stay at the top of their game. During the past eleven weeks we have witnessed some awesome displays of talent, determination and an extreme amount of heart. We have seen “the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat”, we have seen lasting friendships form before our very eyes and we have seen a little controversy. All in all, it has been an exciting and action-packed season and the finale will be the icing on the cake. What will season three bring?

“The Contender” is produced by Mark Burnett Productions, Dreamworks, and ESPN.
