Kermit Cintron will defend his IBF welterweight title for the first time on July 14th in Atlantic City when he takes on Argentine slugger Walter Matthysse in the first bout of an HBO-televised tripleheader, which will also feature Arturo Gatti vs Alfonso Gomez and Antonio Margarito vs Paul Williams. Cintron spent his training camp in Austria along with fellow Kronk stablemates Wladimir Klitschko, Johnathan Banks, and Andy Lee. Cintron (27-1, 25 KOs) captured the vacant IBF welterweight title on October 28, 2006 in a 6th round TKO of Mark Suarez. Matthysse (26-1, 25 KOs) comes into the fight as the IBF’s mandatory challenger.
