ATLANTIC CITY – Alfonso Gomez (17-3-2, 8 KOs) scored a 7th round KO upsetting Arturo “Thunder” Gatti (40-9, 31 KOs) at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City in a lopsided welterweight bout.

Gomez came out aggressively backing Gatti up with one connecting punch after another. Gatti never seemed to really get into the fight even though the crowd was firmly behind him.

Gatti’s last fight was a stunning loss to Carlos Baldomir on July 22, 2006 and with this loss, perhaps it is time for Gatti to hang up the gloves.

IBF Welterweight Champion, Kermit “The Killer” Cintron (28-1, 26 KOs) pleased the crowd with a devastating knockout over Walter Matthysse (26-2, 25 KOs) at 0:29 seconds of the second round and retained his IBF Welterweight title.

Cintron came out with a vengeance and sent Matthysse to the canvas toward the end of the first round, but picked back up where the first round ended and finished him off with a debilitating right. Matthysse was never in the fight.

Cintron is trained and managed by Hall of Fame trainer, Emanuel Steward.

On the undercard, Kaseem Wilson (8-0-1, 3 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over Sergio Garcia (6-4, 5 KOs) in a 6 round welterweight bout. Garcia suffered a severe cut over his left eye.

Raul Martinez (20-0, 13 KOs) defeated Evaristo Primero (14-11-1, 7 KOs) by 5th round TKO in a flyweight bout that had been scheduled for eight rounds.

Welterweight Henry Crawford (16-0-1, 8 KOs) scored a first round knockout over Josh Hammond (8-3, 6 KOs). The time was 35 seconds of round 1.

Giovanni Lorenzo (25-0, 17 KOs) scored a knockout over Sherwin Davis (18-5, 12 KOs) at 2:56 of the third round in a scheduled ten round middleweight bout.

Pawel Wolak (15-0, 9 KOs) defeated Edgar Reyes (10-8, 3 KOs) in a Jr. Middleweight bout. Wolak scored a second round TKO.
