World lightweight champion Katie Taylor could be in the ring in Vejle Denmark this evening (October 15th) to begin her defence of the European 60Kg title she has won for the last two years in a row.

Fourteen boxers have entered the 60Kg Division, including Turkey's Gulsum Tatar, England's Anastasia Cousins,
Frances Cindy Orain, and Finland's Eva Wahlstrom, all of whom Taylor has beaten in the past.

However, Russia's Ayzanat Gadzhieva remains an unknown quantity ahead of the Championships which conclude next Sunday.

The draw for the 6th Women's European Championships will be held this morning in Velje at 11am.

Meanwhile, the Irish Amateur Boxing Association will hold a Press Conference at the National Stadium in Dublin today (October 15th ) beginning at 2:30pm.

The Press Conference will announce details of Irelands participation in the 2007 AIBA World Championships
and Olympic qualifiers which begin at the University of Illinois in Chicago on October 23rd.

The Irish squad and management depart for Chicago tomorrow (October 16th).

Meantime, Irish featherweight Carl Framptom claimed gold from a Multi Nations tournament in Cyprus last night after knocking out Muhammad Sayed in the first round.

The hieroglyphics were on the wall for the Egyptian one minute and 30 seconds into the first after he was dropped by a right from Frampton and was counted out.

But while Frampton was celebrating, Paulstown Kilkenny middleweight Darren O'Neill had to be content with silver after he lost his final to Russian David Arustamian on a split decision.

Coach Tony Davitt, from the Drimnagh boxing club in Dublin, said they were delighted with the medal haul, as they had only two boxers competing in the tournament.

He said: "We are thrilled to be taking home two medals. The lads performed unbelievably out here and we couldn't have asked any more from them as they gave it everything in the ring."
