World and back-to-back European lightweight champion Katie Taylor will begin her European title defence against Hrtistina Athanasopoulou in Denmark around 3pm today Irish time (October 16th).

Twenty one year old Taylor, from the St Fergal's club in Bray, will face the Greek over three rounds in a preliminary round last 16 bout in Vejle.

If Taylor advances from today's three rounder then she will meet Spain's Mc de la Guia Guerra in the quarter finals on Thursday.

Neither Athanasopoulou or Guia Guerra are ranked in the top 15 in the World or Europe, while 21 year old Taylor, who is targeting an historic 60K three-in-a-row in Denmark, is ranked number one in both categories.

She is also ranked number one in the World and Europe in the pound-for-pound rankings.

But despite the gulf in the rankings, the World champion insists that she will be taking nothing for granted.

Taylor said: "I am very focussed for this tournament and I won't be taking anything for granted against anyone as my objective is to retain my title and if I'm to do that then I can't afford to be complacent."

Fifteen boxers in total are in the 60Kg category.
