IABA UPDATE (WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS)

John Joe Joyce will get Irelands World Championships campaign underway with a preliminary round light welterweight bout against Hungary's Gyula Kate at the University of Illinois in Chicago tonight.

Both men will go head-to-head at round 9pm tonight (Chicago time) (around 3am tomorrow morning Irish time).

The four rounder is a repeat of the European Union Championships quarter final clash which the Hungarian won 21-18 at the National Stadium in Dublin last June.

Joyce was on top in that meeting but conceded two points to Kate after receiving a public warning in the final round.

Joyce will be the only Irish boxer in the ring tonight. The full draw will be available shortly. The 2007 AIBA
World Championships are also acting as the first qualifier for the 2008 Olympics.
