MULTI-NATIONS BOXING TOURNAMENT FOR DONEGALposted by mightygloves.com on December 9, 2007, in Amateur
Speaking at the press conference in Jacksons Hotel, Ballybofey on Sunday, IABA President, Dominic O’Rourke pledged the support of the IABA for this prestigious International tournament hosted by the Twin-Towns ABC in Ballybofey, county Donegal starting on Friday 14th to Sunday 16th December. ‘Last year I visited Donegal and attended tournaments and championships, the support for amateur boxing in the county is phenomenal and what better way to endorse the emerging young talent from the county and indeed Ulster and Antrim than be given the opportunity to perform in front of the home crowd. The plan of the IABA is to spread amateur boxing nationwide and I know that the Clubs and the County Donegal Boxing Board fully support this International which will be funded by the National Association. This will be viewed as a pilot project for future competitions in all units of the IABA.’ He also added, ‘the development plan for this team and other young boxers is the London Olympics in 2012.’ This Multi-Nations Junior tournament includes the recently crowned National Intermediate Champion Tyrone Mc Cullagh. 17 year old Mc Cullagh who boxes out of the Illies Golden Gloves ABC in Buncrana won the 51kg class on Friday last in the National Stadium. This is his fourth National title and he is also the current Ulster Intermediate Champion. Twin-Towns Stephen O Reilly is amongst the boxers headlining this excellent weekend of boxing against England, France and Germany. O Reilly is the current National Under 21 champion.
