LOS ANGELES, January 24 – Former Junior Flyweight World Champion Hugo “El Incredible” Cazares of Los Mochis, Mexico will battle Columbian veteran Kermin Guardia tomorrow, January 25th, at Cicero Stadium in Chicago in the main event as Golden Boy Promotions and 8 Count Productions present THE MONTH OF KINGS, an eight bout card of world class professional boxing.

Along with Golden Boy Promotions and 8 Count Productions, THE MONTH OF THE KINGS event is presented by TCF Bank, Tecate Beer and AeroMexico, Mexico’s premier airline travel headquarters. The TeleFutura Solo Boxeo broadcast will begin at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT and 8 p.m. PT (delayed on the West Coast).

Cazares (25-4-1, 19 KO’s) will be moving up to flyweight for the ten round bout with Guardia who brings a record of 37-7 with 21 knockouts into the battle. Cazares won the world title on April 30, 2005 in Caguas, Puerto Rico with a technical decision over Nelson Dieppa. He successfully defended his title five times before losing a very close, hard fought split decision to Ivan Calderon on August 25, 2007 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He is currently ranked # 2 in the world by The Ring Magazine and ESPN.com at 108 pounds.

Guardia (37-7, 21 KO’s) is a former Minimum Weight World Champion who hold wins over Juan Alfonso Keb Baas and John Alberto Molina among other world class challengers in his career. On May 11, 2007, he won a nationally televised twelve round decision over up and coming Gerardo Verde in Garland, Texas in which the savvy veteran gave the younger contender a boxing lesson. He followed that up with a hard fought twelve round battle with Juan Esper on October 19, 2007 in Miami, Florida that saw him come out on the short end of a majority decision.

The televised portion of THE MONTH OF THE KINGS also features highly touted Puerto Rican twin prospects, the Velazquez brothers, with junior lightweight Carlos (5-0, 5 KO’s) facing Colombian Ever Perez (10-12, 7 KO’s) in a six round battle, while featherweight Juan (5-0, 3 KO’s) battles Noe Inzunza (7-12-1, 3 KO’s) of Thousand Oaks, CA in a four round bout.

Rounding out the night is super middleweight prospect Daniel Jacobs (1-0, 1 KO) of Brooklyn against Puerto Rican Hector Lopez (1-2, 1 KO), a junior welterweight clash between New York’s newcomer Michael Faragon (1-0) and Heriberto Ponce (1-2) of Woodland, CA. Mexico native Ivan Popoca (3-0, 3 KO’s) clashes against Richard Baldo (1-0) in a four round welterweight fight, Chicago fan favorite Barbaro Zepeda (8-17, 2 KO’s) faces Mexico native Jose Navarrete (7-13-2, 3 KO’s) in a six round fight and Chicago based Puerto Rican junior lightweight Gadiel Adaluz makes his pro debut in a four round battle against Marsay Buggs (0-3) of Grand Rapids Michigan.
