MIHTAR, NELSON AND BREWER
ALSO IN ACTION!

On February 1, Detroit-based promoter Joseph Donofrio of Donofrio Boxing will return for "FIRE & ICE" a five-bout night of professional boxing at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Co-headlining will be Detroit's two hottest undefeated lightweight prospects, Vernon "The Iceman" Paris (17-0, 12 KOs) and Lanardo "The Pain Server" Tyner (18-0, 10 KOs) in separate bouts. The two sharp-punching Motowners have been sniping at each other publicly for quite some time and the Palace event will serve as a preview to their showdown, currently being discussed for later this year.

Aside from being a staple on Fox Sports' televised boxing, Paris is best known for surviving being shot three times in 2006 and returning to the ring just two months later. The 20 year old made seven ring appearances in 2007, scoring six knockouts.

Tyner, a relentless pressure fighter, scored the most impressive win of his career last September when he stopped normally durable veteran Marteze Logan in nine brutal rounds. Fearless, with an all-action style, Tyner has become a favorite of Michigan fight fans.

Also appearing that night will be undefeated middleweight knockout sensation Brian "The Lion" Mihtar (8-0, 7 KOs). 27-year-old Mihtar is four fights into his comeback and has scored three knockouts. With an army of loyal fans at all of his fights, the hard-punching Mihtar has become a hero to the large Middle Eastern population of Detroit.

Also making very special appearances will be undefeated former amateur standouts Willie "The Quiet Storm" Nelson (5-0, 3 KOs) and Prenice "Showbiz" Brewer (5-0-1, 4 KOs).

Standing an amazing 6' 3" for a welterweight, Nelson is a former USA and European champion. Brewer is a former PAL National champion and 2005 Ringside World Championships finalist. Both 20-year-old Cleveland natives have relocated to Lansing, Michigan, to train and will be looking to make impressive showings for the fans in their new home state.

Premium tickets for "FIRE & ICE" are priced at $85.00 front row, $75.00 ringside, $50.00 VIP and $25.00 reserved, and are on sale now at www.palacenet.com, The Palace Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations. For more information, visit www.donofrioboxing.com. Doors will open on fight night at 6:30 pm. The action starts at 7:30 pm.
Paris's Amazing Survival Story!

Young prospect cheats death in "miracle" survival story.

August 3, 2006

When he regained consciousness, he had three bullet holes in his body while his assassins were making plans to roll his body in a carpet and dump it somewhere in Detroit.

Vernon Paris ran for his life.

The details of an alleged premeditated murder plot by two "jealous" former gym rivals and two of their friends are unfolding, now that the victim, undefeated professional boxer Vernon "The Iceman" Paris (5-0, 4 KOs) has recovered sufficiently to give his version of events.

"They were guys that used to box with me. They were my friends at one time. At least I thought they were," explains the undefeated super lightweight prospect, now recovering at his mother's house and awaiting news on whether he'll require surgery to remove the two bullets still lodged in his body.

On the evening of Tuesday, July 25, 18-year-old Paris says he accepted an invitation to hang out with a couple friends from his amateur boxing days. The trio stopped at one of Detroit's many abandoned buildings.

"No argument. We were just hanging out talking. They said they were waiting for two other guys to show up. When the two other guys showed up, we were getting ready to leave, that's when they shot me."

Paris was first to exit the building out the back steps. He never saw it coming.

"There was a rug laid out back. When I stepped on the rug, they shot me in the back of the head. I went down and as I was going down, they shot me two more times, one in the back and one in the hip."

Somehow quickly regaining consciousness, Paris says he alertly assessed the reality of the situation. "After that, they all went to the front yard, probably to see if anybody heard the gun shots. I guess they were going to roll me up in the rug. You know how they do it. Toss me in the bushes or inside an abandoned building or something. When they went to the front of the building to check, I took off running."

Relying on the guts and physical conditioning required of a top-notch boxer, the badly injured Paris was able to flee to the exposed safety of the city street and make it to a nearby CVS Drug Store.

His problems were not over.

"I just got up and took off running to the CVS on Chicago and Greenfield. And there, one of the security guards told me to get out. I told him I was shot. He said I couldn't be in the store like that. Then one guy behind the counter said 'he's shot for real.' They gave me some water and called the ambulance. I'm lucky the guy behind the counter was there because that guard was going to kick me out of the store to die outside."

"I think it's jealousy, there was no other reason they would want to do it," states Paris' trainer David Shumate of the quartet's possible motive. "They would spar with Vernon and Vernon would beat them up. Their skills weren't up to par. I've heard them say they were jealous of him before because Vernon was signed to a promoter and was undefeated and looking so good as a professional."

While the head wound amazingly turned out to be non-life threatening, Paris says doctors are unsure of the correct way to treat his other injuries. "The bullet in my back is stuck three or four inches from my spinal cord. I can't leave the bed right now. The bullet could shift over and paralyze me. And I still have another bullet in my groin."

As for the attackers, manager Carlos Llinas says he spoke with police and they've already apprehended two of the men and are currently searching for the other two.

Also according to Llinas, doctors are amazed Paris isn't another casualty in a city often called the "Murder Capital". "The doctors told me it's a miracle he's alive. The first bullet ricocheted off his head! They told me if a .22 penetrates the skull, it bounces around inside the brain and you are dead, but somehow the bullet bounced off of Vernon's skull. That's one of the things that saved him."

A young man's life and promising career possibly ended before it really began. Vernon Paris wasn't shot for something he did wrong. Talented, quick, and naturally more skilful than his peers, Paris was shot for something he did too right.

"This is terrible. I wish this hadn't happened. I'm in pain every day since I left the hospital. I hope I'll still be able to box. I don't know yet. They haven't given me an answer. I wish I hadn't gone and hung out with those guys. I wish I had gone to sleep instead. This will be a major setback, whether its six weeks or six months. But I do feel I will make a full recovery and come back stronger than before."
Tyner Stops Logan at Meadow Brook!

September 22, 2007

Detroit lightweight Lanardo "Pain Server" Tyner scored an impressive ninth-round TKO over normally durable veteran Marteze "Too Sweet" Logan of Tennessee in the main event of the "Boxing Under the Stars" event Friday at Meadow Brook Music Festival in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

A vocal crowd estimated at more than 3,000 showed up for promoter Joe Donofrio's outdoor fight night.

The heavy-handed Tyner (17-0, 12 KOs) set to work on battering the body of Logan early, then later switched to the head. He dropped Logan in the first with a right hand and again in Round Eight with a combination.

At the bell to start the ninth, an exhausted Logan (25-30-2, 6 KOs) elected to stay on his stool.

It was an impressive win for Tyner, who showed determination and focus in tracking down the elusive Logan. "He was in the wrong state at the wrong time against the wrong fighter!" he exclaimed, post-fight.
