Who is this insightful female writer for mightygloves.com you ask?
Who is this women who calls herself The Diva of Boxing?
Who is she that seeks justice for the sport of boxing?

Let's find out...By turning the tables on this writer we began asking her a few questions about herself and her love of boxing. Who are you??? writer of profound boxing words.

My name is Judi Abate (aka The Boxing Diva) and I'm a third generation fight fan who has developed an insatiable appetite for everything boxing. From boxing business to black eyes and tradition to training. I'm captivated by the sport and love to share my unique perspective. From Jack Dempsey to Miguel Cotto I enjoy examining the parallels between the modern day technicians and the old-school brawlers.

My love for the sport began in 1976 when, along with millions of other Americans, I tuned into ABC's Saturday afternoon coverage of the Olympics to be introduced to a fighter who would become the sweetheart of boxing in the 80's, Sugar Ray Leonard. That ignited the passion that would take me through the 90's and fan the fire that now burns into a new generation of boxing greats and heavyweight hopefuls.

I have a BA in elementary education with a minor in psychology and have been writing the "next great boxing romance novel" for the past few years. I especially find the "behind the scenes" of boxing both intriguing and complex...and the opportunity to shed light on the shadows in the gym and shine a spotlight on the magic that happens in the ring is what I enjoys most about writing for Mightygloves.

So lace 'em up and protect yourself at all times, because "Joltin' Judi" is coming out swinging!

Let's talk to Judi Abate:

MG What or who influenced your love of boxing?

BD As mentioned above, my grandmother and father both influenced my love of the sweet
science. I also have to credit Sugar Ray Leonard and the first Rocky movie.

MG How did you hook up with Mighytgloves?

BD Spontaneously, I was cruising boxing sites one afternoon looking for information for my
own boxing story and noticed MG was looking for boxing writers. I said to myself, "I
can do that" and decided to give it a try.

MG You do a variety of features for MG, is that exciting?

BD MG has been great. MG has given me many new opportunities to explore more of the
sweet science thru interviews, conference calls and letting me see how the PR side of
boxing operates. I also enjoy writing articles for my column, Punch Lines.

MG Your articles tend to be free-thinking/uncomformist explain?

BD MG has given me "creative license" and I ran with it. I knew boxing reporting wasn't my
niche but unique and behind the scene topics were the direction I needed to go.

MG Your purpose for writing for MG?

BD First, my relentless quest for truth in this sport. Second, to support the brave men and
women who choose this tough and unforgiving path in order to make a living and lastly
to show the positive side of the sport.

MG How did you evolve into the Boxing Diva?

BD Well, as I looked around the Net for boxing sites I noticed one where the owner was
called Boxing Queen of Myspace. I thought that was pretty interesting. Even though I had
great column with a spunky title I needed something to distinguish myself from
the other (mostly male) boxing writers-so Boxing Diva was created.

MG How did Team Diva come about?

BD When I was looking for help clarifying subjects in my boxing story I asked
many trainers, coaches, and people from the boxing community for their feedback.
I developed a small network of smart, exciting, and loyal supporters. Then when I started
to write for MG I would brain-storm with them for article ideas and the rest is history.

MG How is your boxing story coming along? What is it about?

BD LOL! I have been writing my story on and off for forever and continue to do so even at
present, though most of my boxing writing is for MG these days. The story's concept is
about a woman who wants to be a boxing trainer in a world that won't accept her because
of her gender and inexperience in a gym or the boxing ring. When I first conceived this idea
it was clearly way ahead of it's time now it is a little more realistic I am happy to say.

MG Would you consider writing a informational book on boxing?

BD I would love to write a boxing biography. Smiles- Bobby give me a call.

MG Are you concerned that most writers in this field are male?

BD Not at all. There is plenty in boxing to go around. My articles try to show what is positive
about the sport and that is something I am very passionate about. A writer's credibility are
their words not the color of their nail polish.

MG Any famous last words?

BD Keep boxing strong. 2007 was a great year for boxing and this year looks very promising
too. That is a very good thing for the people who love boxing and support it.

MG It was nice speaking to you Judi and I hope we have the chance to ask you more questions
in the future so that our readers will know a little more about what makes you tick.

BD I'd be honored to speak to MG at any time. Thanx.
