Hopkins and Calzaghe Prepare to Fight in the “Battle of the Planet”

Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins will put his Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight Title on the line when he faces Ring Magazine Super Middleweight Champion, Joe “The Pride of Wales” Calzaghe in the “Battle of the Planet” on April 19, 2008 in the Planet Hollywood Ring at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The fighters faced off for a media press conference on Thursday to announce the upcoming fight and to take the opportunity to talk a little trash.

Hopkins, (48-4-1, 32 KOs) and Calzaghe (44-0, 32 KOs) are expected to bring out a sell out crowd with as many as 20,000 British fans making the journey to watch their Countryman make his debut in the United States.

Promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Frank Warren’s Sports Network and Planet Hollywood the bout will be televised live on HBO Championship fights with a start time of 9:45 P.M. ET and 6:45 PM PT.

Tickets are on sale and priced at $1500, $1200, $450, $350 and $250 and may be purchased by calling 866-USFIGHT or online at planethollywood.com.

Hopkins last fought Winky Wright on July 21, 2007 in Las Vegas, winning by unanimous decision and holding on to his Ring Magazine’s Light Heavyweight Championship Title. Calzaghe’s last bout, his 21st defense of his WBO Super Middleweight Title, was a unanimous decision over Mikkel Kessler in Cardiff, Wales on November 3, 2007. Calzaghe also claimed the WBC and WBA World Championships.
