KENDALL HOLT HEADING INTO LAS VEGAS!

Super lightweight contender Kendall Holt, rated WBO #2, of Paterson, N.J. will hit Las Vegas on Tuesday to get ready to take on Ben Tackie on a Top Rank/VERSUS fight card at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Thursday, Feb. 7.

"Kendall has been doing a lot of sparring, not the normal kind but more technical and strategy-working," said manager Henry Cortes. "We've done all of our work at Ike's Boxing Gym in Paterson, N.J. Tackie is tough as nails. He's been in with all of the top guys and we know we're going into a fight. Tackie is an elite fighter as far as we're concerned."

This will be Holt's first fight since he was involved in an extremely controversial title fight against world champion Ricardo Torres in his hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia, on Sept. 1.

Holt knocked down Torres in the sixth round, then said he was struck with a thrown object and later said someone pulled his leg and tried to drag him on the canvas in the 11th. Torres won by stoppage. Team Holt filed a protest which was eventually overturned by the WBO.

Cortes said "priority #1" is to get a return fight with Torres.

TR NOTEBOOK -- Jose Celaya of Salinas, Calif. has arrived into Leon, Mexico. Celaya will take on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in the main event of Top Rank's "Latin Fury" PPV on Saturday, Feb. 9.....Celaya said his "quickness and experience" will be the difference against the unbeaten Chavez Jr....

Top Rank and DiBella Entertainment will have a Media Day featuring Martin Castillo and Jose Navarro on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at the South El Monte Community Gym, 1530 Central Ave. South, El Monte, Calif., at noontime. Both fighters are in world title bouts on the Pavlik vs. Taylor 'The Epic Battle Continues' championship card Feb 16 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Castillo, a former world champion, is taking on WBO junior bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel; Navarro is challenging WBC super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares...
