Weights and Photos from Germanyposted by Kathleen Holland on May 16, 2008, in Press ReleaseFriday May 16, 2008 Bayreuth, Germany The official weigh-ins for Saturday nights huge Sauerland Event Championship boxing took place this afternoon. In all there are 11 bouts scheduled and 3 are for Championships. There was plenty of local press coverage on hand, and naturally the focus is on the Main Event featuring Marco Huck (20-1) as he faces off against Frantisek Kasanic (12-2) for the IBF Inter-Continental Cruiserweight title. However, there is another very interesting and intriguing cruiserweight title on the line. Local favorite and the undefeated slugger Alexander Frenkel (14-0 w/10 KOs) clashes with American fighter Cory “Kid Cobra” Phelps (12-3-1 w/7 KOs) for the IBF World Youth Cruiserweight Championship. Phelps, who hails from Kentucky and is trained by his father, the former professional fighter Larry Phelps, had this to say today, “I want to thank everyone at Sauerland Event and the IBF for this tremendous opportunity. Unlike my last fight that I took on a few days notice, I have had ample time to prepare for this Title challenge. I have trained very hard for this fight and I am thrilled to be given the chance to not only perform on an International stage here in Germany, but to showcase the skills that we have been working on in the gym. Alexander Frenkel is an exceptional fighter that has a lot of power, but I believe that all of the pressure is on him, as he is undefeated and fighting in front of his home crowd and is expected to win. I have studied tape of Alexander’s last 2 fights and even though I am huge underdog in this particular fight, I believe that this is a very evenly matched bout. I am as relaxed and confident as I have ever been in my entire boxing career, and I am in excellent condition. I feel strong and quick and I look forward to making a statement tomorrow night when the bell rings!” – Cory “Kid Cobra” Phelps At the weigh-in, Alexander Frenkel had this to say, “I have been training for the past 3 weeks in the Swiss Alps and I feel very good. The past week I have been very relaxed and I am ready for Saturday night.” – Alexander Frenkel Here are the official weights: Marco Huck – 198 lbs. Alexander Frenkel – 199 lbs. Henry Weber – 169 lbs. Enad Licina – 198 lbs. Francesco Pianeta – 241 lbs. Jurgen Doberstein – 164 lbs. Robert Helenius – 231 lbs. Cecilia Braekhus – 141 lbs. Artur Hein – 178 lbs. Lukasz Janik – 198 lbs.
