The Honorable Burton S. Sternburg, 80, passed away Wednesday morning at his home
in Chevy Chase, MD from lung cancer. A native of Boston, Judge Sternburg earned
his undergraduate and law degrees from Georgetown University where he was also a
member of the college boxing team. Specializing in labor law, Judge Sternburg
earned a lifetime federal appointment as an Administrative Law Judge with the
Labor Department in 1973. In 1979, he was selected to be in the first group of
judges for the Federal Labor Relations Authority, which was established that
year by President Jimmy Carter. He retired from the bench in 1994.

Judge Sternburg is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mimi, three sons, Jon,
Charles and Fred, four grandchildren, Rebecca, Joshua, Samuel and David, and a
brother, Frederick.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, August 11, at Washington Hebrew
Congregation (3935 Macomb St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20016), beginning at 11
a.m. ET. Internment at the synagogue's cemetery, Garden of Remembrance Memorial
Park, in Clarksburg, MD, will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Judge Sternburg's memory
be made to the Jewish Social Service Agency Hospice (6123 Montrose Road,
