Casamayor vs Marquez

In a year of big fights Joel Casamayor vs Juan Marquez doest seem like PPV material to me. However, Mexican fans seem to pay out to see one of their own in major competition even if he as a dull as Juan Marquez .

Joel Casamayor has finally hit the big PPV market after a long successful career. The adulation, attention, and thrill of winning a big PPV fight will be his for the first time if he can pull it off. At age 36 he doesn’t have much time left. Casamayor is less than he once was but still has formidable skills. Remember that left hook from hell he hit Kastidis with and you know he still has big time talent. He is the heavier fighter as Marquez is moving up in weight for this one.

Marquez has exceptional hand speed and that is his only advantage. However it may be enough as he could just outbox Casamayor and Marquez has the stamina to fight hard for 12 rounds. Pressure and volume is how you beat boxers and Casamayor, good as he is, is neither a pressure nor high volume puncher. It’s a competitive fight and an interesting one.

Can Casamayor, at age 36, do enough to off set Marquez dull, but very effective, boxing skills? I think Casamayor can keep it close but he is just a little too late in his career for this fight. A younger Casamayor I would pick but I just think Marquez will be a little too fast.
