Note: After watching the fight again on HBO, I have come to the conclusion that Kelly Pavlik beat Jermain Taylor down in the seventh round to the point where Taylor was out and unable to continue. The position from which I watched the fight live had Taylor’s back to me and it was impossible to see his face from that angle. His face told the story and the call was a correct one, Taylor was not responding with connecting punches, just wild flailing shots that were in no way a threat. .

First Kronk Champion, James Steward, Dies at 53posted by Kathleen Holland on March 31, 2007
When James was 15, he left his home in West Virginia for Detroit to live with his older brother, Emanuel. It wasn’t long after James arrived in Detroit that he asked Emanuel to teach him to box. Even though Emanuel wasn’t too keen on the idea of his younger brother boxing and since he had been out of boxing for some time, he reluctantly agreed to teach James some basics. They went to the Kronk Recreation Center on Detroit’s south-west side, where the two began to train. After about five months, under Emanuel’s tutelage, James had secured a place in the Detroit Golden Gloves and won the 1970 Detroit Golden Gloves Championship. James Steward, who earned the nickname “Baby Ali” was one of Detroit’s hottest prospects and repeated as Golden Gloves champion in 1971 and 1972.
